History of the Fred Davids Residence

Located inside a semi-hidden path in the woods along the nature-filled Hines Park in Plymouth, MI, sits what remains of the Fred Davids residence. The house sits in Hines Park, which is named after the founder of the park, "Edward N. Hines," of which the road that follows the 17mi long park is named after. Hines heavily believed in two things: exploring nature and having the ability to rest and take breaks in comfort while exploring it. As Hines Park became more historical, the many 20+ comfort stations along the route of Hines Dr. fell into disrepair, as other park projects were more favored over the original meaning of the park. This house is often mistaken as one of the Hines Park Comfort Stations but was never a comfort station. It was the first house in Plymouth Township and was owned by the Michigan State Police Commissioner, "Fred Davids" (Col. Frederick Davids), up until the early 1970s. The place sat abandoned along the Middle Rouge River in a semi-hidden path in the woods along Hines Park and fell victim to vandals, arson, scrappers, and teenagers with nothing else better to do but damage the property. Many abandoned properties and buildings along Hines Park that were originally abandoned were restored, but this one was never selected to be relived once again and was eventually demolished sometime after 2021.
