History of the First English Evangelical Lutheran Parish House

The First English Evangelical Lutheran Parish House was an addon to the First English Evangelical Lutheran Church, the church was built in 1909 and opened in January of 1910. The Parish House was a later addition being built in 1930. The house included a Gymnasium, A Chapel Room, and a library among other things. As the population began to decline inside Detroit the church moved to the Suburbs in Grosse Pointe Woods in 1957, and sold the church to a new St. James Baptist, and the Parish House became a City Rec Center Around the late 1960’s early 70’s. The Rec Center continued on, as the Church again switched denominations, as the Baptist Church moved out in 1992. The Revival Tabernacle Church of Christ took ownership of the church in 2001 and used the Church until 2005, when the Church closed for good. The Rec Center continued on being used until 2011 and then was abandoned. The Church finally met its fate in 2018 as it was demolished leaving only the Parish House/Rec Center remaining, and today the Parish House appears to be getting ready for Demolition in the next couple years as a fence has been put up around the building.
